Long Overdue: Parent's Visit Part 2 and Scottish Rugby

After a hellish, essay-filled week my parents arrived back in Edinburgh for their second weekend in Scotland. Friday afternoon was filled with figuring out the public buses and touring around the two campuses on which I have classes.

On Friday night we traded stories about our weeks over dinner at my favorite Indian restaurant here in Edinburgh. Saturday morning I was up bright and early to meet them for breakfast before heading to Glasgow! I had heard good things and was excited to visit somewhere interesting and different and convenient! After a brief hour on the train my mom, my dad, and I arrived in Glasgow. We were quick to get tickets for the city's tourbus so that we could have transportation and hop off at the sites along the way.
Glasgow City Chambers on George's Square can be seen from the train station!
Our first stop was the Riverside Museum. Designed by Zaha Hadid, this museum is all about transportation! From freight trains to prams and bicycles to ships..there were a lot of cool exhibits! Not to mention the great building.
Mom says cityscape, Dad and I say heart monitor...what do you think?
Another of our stops was the Kelvingrove Art Gallery. A little of of natural history, some Charles Rennie Mackintosh, some ancient art...what else could one want in a museum?

By this time we were getting tired and it was time to head back to Edinburgh. After we all napped on the train we made a short walk to the Scotsman, one of the most famous and historic hotels in Edinburgh. We had an easy and delicious dinner in their bar. I had sweet potato-chili-coconut soup...so yummy!

On Sunday we had breakfast together and then my parents were off to see the castle and the Royal Mile! I was off to see a rugby game: Scotland vs. New Zealand.

The rugby game was awesome. I was really bummed because the buses were not running on schedule so my friends and I missed New Zealand's pregame Haka dance. But we did see kick off! (if that's even what it's called...) I was with a few friends who knew a few rules so we were all able to piece the game together. Even if we hadn't understood the play at all, the atmosphere was unreal. So many die-hard fans and songs to sing...very fun!

After a stressful school week it was so comforting to have my parents visit me in my cozy Edinburgh life. Our weekend was full of laughs and it made me excited to get home to the States. But don't think I am wishing my time away! I went to Berlin, and Paris and Amsterdam are still on the agenda! Oh and exams...
